What is dignity?
Dignity is an internal self-appraisal of personality, awareness of the personal qualities, capabilities, world view, performed duty, the community sense and determines the subjective estimation of personality. A self-appraisal must be based on the social-meaningful criteria of estimation of moral and other qualities of personality.
In Ancient Greece and Ancient Rome the concept of honour and dignity were compared with kind regards to personality, correlated with a moral and right.
The concepts of honour and dignity have a certain orientation, and at interpretation of concept of honour it is necessary to differentiate sense of honour from consciousness of own dignity. The object of these concepts foremost is a man or group of people, or collective, in wider plan it is talked about honour of nation.
The characteristic of the concept of honour contains two aspects - objective and subjective, or personal. Honour is a public estimation of confession society, and its maintenance is social, not depending on an individual man, based on the folded moral principles and comes forward as an evaluation category, directed from society to personality.
Dignity is the self-appraisal of personality, based on his estimation by society. Indissoluble connection of honour and dignity is fully explainable and natural, as, being in a certain collective, in society on the whole, an individual can not ignore that, how estimates his collective or society. By virtue of this public estimation in consciousness of man there is a picture of himself as about the member of certain collective. Dignity of everybody consists of spiritual and physical qualities, valuable from point of necessities of society.
Dignity, as well as honour, combines in itself social and individual sides. Social character of dignity shows up in that moral value and meaningful quality of personality, public dignity is determined by existent public relations and quite often does not depend on a man.
